Temptations Begin in the Mind

Big words. Yes, temptations begin in the mind. But the good news is change also begins in the mind. Let me repeat that, change begins in the mind. The moment that you let God win over your thoughts, the sooner and closer you get to victory. However it is much easier said than done, just like Jesus' unchangeable truth, "The truth will set us free." But it is true. The truth will change your life, relationships, words and action if you let knowledge of the truth begin to sink in your mind first. As an example, one of the things I thought was the purpose in life was to fall in love, find the right one and get married. Indeed we are bombarded with that kind of message. Love and marriage is a gift. But it is not the purpose of life. It is Jesus. How did I come to that conclusion? Good question. It was a process of unwinding wrong thoughts, beliefs and motives. One of the motives of my life was to find the right one. Before I see all of life through this lens. Finding

Hearing from God

Very early this morning I did an exercise. I just spent some quiet time hearing what God wanted to say to me. " The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening. '' 1 Samuel 3:10 I was so refreshed by the written exhortation of theologian A.W. Tozer where he said that God is a speaking God. Not only was the whole earth made by the spoken Word of God, but every thing of life is held together by the Word and power of God. Amazing! Tozer said the Bible is just the WRITTEN Word but God still speaks, is speaking and is continuing to speak to people today. " In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. " John 1:1 Have you ever experienced such wonder? If not, don't worry. There's always a first time.  Try this: Get alone in your quiet place this week and get a pen and paper. Also a Bible. And then pray to Him in

Being Trained by the Master

Mr. Han, played by Jackie Chan and his pupil Dre (Jaden Smith) in the movie The Karate Kid (image:  http://wegotthiscovered.com/movies/the-karate-kid-review/ ) We all love Kung Fu, Karate movies where the hero/student has to go under strict training from the master. I can't help but thank God for his training that started three or more years ago. During that time, God's training seemed difficult and to me it made no sense sometimes. God's training to me was very unique and shaped specifically for the task or purpose I was meant to fulfill. But back then, I had no idea what it would be. I thought I would be one type of instrument, only to find out I will be shaped to be a different one. His ways I cannot comprehend. But being trained for His purpose has been priceless. Proverbs 23:23 says,  " Buy the truth and do not sell it—  wisdom , instruction and insight as well. " God asks us to place a high value on insight and learning. Indeed all of life is a lear

For Those Having a Hard Time at Work...

Please don't give up. I want you to know that God wants to draw closer to you during this time of trial, testing and difficulty. " The   Lord   is near   to all who call on him,      to all who call on him in truth." Psalm 145:18 God wants to draw near to you even as you experience a time of seeming hopelessness and helplessness. Probably things don't seem to be working out by your own efforts. The Lord wants you to know that He is willing to be your refuge and strength through all the difficult trials and problems you are facing. When pressed and you don't know what to do, just call on the Lord and He will be there to help you. It's not all times that it's people who will help us. At times, the Lord is teaching us to rely on Him, and Him alone. There will be moments and situations where running to people will be like running to a drying well. It tries to feed you, be your solace and comfort but at the end of the day, you still feel running low a

Recovering from Emotional Hurts

Last weekend, God gave me a different vision. My visions before were of green fields, the top of hills to down the meadows. But this time in this vision, God was leading me a path through a very dark night and I was crying while He was holding me in hand as He walks me through it. Not all walks of life are green meadows. Sometimes along the journey to my mountains, God would lead to certain "valleys of death" as I would call it - because the vision was pitch black! And I was crying all the time while going through the valley. But God would still lead me to it. I don't know what this type of valleys represent to different people. To me, there are instances that God would heal me of broken wounds inside my soul that only He knows I have. And I have to pass through them again so that He would heal them. God knows my past, present and future better than I. He knows my thoughts, my emotions, why and how I think. I cannot hide who I am to God. More often that not, emotio
